PREFACE: After writing this, I considered deleting it. It sounded too much like, “Oh, look what I did this year!” That wasn’t how I intended it. But with this introduction, I thought I’d go ahead and post.
As writers, we sometimes have to look for the little successes to boost our morale to keep going rather than give up. Maybe this article will encourage you to look back over the past year to find those little things, medium-size things, and maybe even big things that tell you, “Hey, you’re moving forward with this writing thing.”
“Oh, but I haven’t had any successes, not even little ones,” you say. Yeah, I bet you did. Did you start a new story or finish the one you’d been working on? Did you submit it? Even without an acceptance, that’s a huge step. If you submitted to a critique group for feedback, that’s a giant success. Get something published? Phenomenal!
