To take a break from the writing and editing tips for one week, now that the Top Ten Pet Peeves series is complete (until I add an eleventh), here’s a short-short story. Maybe it qualifies as flash fiction, I’m not sure. Right around a thousand words, and just a bit of fun. Hope you enjoy it!

Frank waited all week to swim. He worked in an office at a desk in a cubicle in a room with one hundred other cubicles, fluorescent lighting, and no windows. He could feel his skin grow paler each day. It was paler Tuesday than on Monday. Thursday at five, it was paler than at eight that morning. His skin tingled as the pigmentation evaporated, sucked from his pores by the blue-tinged lights. By quitting time Friday, Frank felt positively translucent.
Swimming before work was useless. Frank wasn’t a morning person. He’d hit the snooze button three or four times, then rush through a shower and throw on the least-wrinkled clothes he could find. He took the …
