In the comments below, leave your favorite first sentence from something you’ve written: a novel, a short story, a memoir, an essay, a grocery list. Okay, no grocery lists.
Leading into your first sentence, tell us what we’re reading in as few words as possible:
Title
Format and genre (novel, short story, literary, horror, whatever)
If it’s published, feel free to include linkage
Then your first sentence.
Exception: if your first sentence is exceedingly short (like one or three words), feel free to include the second sentence, but don’t abuse this exception.
Don’t provide any additional information. No synopsis or elevator pitch. Just title, genre, and first sentence.
After you’ve done that, if you really have a second one you’d like to post, then do it. No more than two though, please.
